Job Summary

The Customer Service Representative (CSR) is accountable for maintaining day to day customer relations and ensuring world class order fulfillment. The team member serves as a resource to customers, prospects, warehouse employees, vendors and outside sales staff. He/She shall be aligned with and support the overall goals and objectives of the entire company and actively provide input and support throughout the company. Strives for 100% of customers to Experience the Difference. Ensures Abatix is represented in a positive manner.            

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Sell and service customers in person, over the phone and via email, providing pricing and product application information
  • Take and process customer orders, provide delivery information, and follow up as required
  • Source and process special orders and direct shipments
  • Prepare quotes and follow up in a timely fashion
  • Promote the learning centers
  • Stay current on product knowledge
  • Perform vendor relations/negotiations as needed
  • Maintain computer and software related skills
  • Assist customers through counter sales
  • Notify supervisor, warehouse manager, and outside sales staff of customer issues as warranted
  • Assist with the company’s inventory management program when required
  • Make outbound calls to generate sales as directed
  • Maintain accurate customer contact records
  • Suggest related “add-on” items for customer orders
  • Communicate new customer opportunities to supervisor and outside sales staff
  • Communicate with customers regarding new products
  • Communicate honestly and succinctly with the purchasing department
  • Review work load and prioritize work to ensure delivery times, locations, and customer requirements are consistently met
  • Resolve discrepancies regarding shipments, receipts, and all other transactions
  • Evaluate and recommend continuous improvement projects to supervisor
  • Participate in various departmental and interdepartmental meetings or training as required
  • Perform other duties as necessary 

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school degree or GED certificate from a certified institution required
  • 2+ years prior customer service experience preferred
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Professional appearance
  • Excellent verbal & written English language skills are required
  • Possess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism
  • Exhibit motivation, dependability, punctuality, organization skills, and be detail oriented
  • A team player who handles multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment
  • General office skills including proficient computer skills
  • Ability to compile and decipher information in a spreadsheet format 

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Able to be present & punctual, with minimal absences 
  • Able to sit for long periods of time
  • Able to lift 25 pounds
  • Required to wear steel toe boots or shoes when in warehouse
  • Eyesight, verbal skills, and hearing must be adequate to enable written and verbal communication with customers
  • Time commitments will vary with the seasons and may require more than forty hours per week. May also be called out occasionally for after hours or weekend service.
